Domain statuses

Below are all the domain statuses used in Dimpl and what they mean.

Domains that have a registrant in Dimpl are always presented as closed status to other users unless they are listed as forsale.

closed status

As you are not signed in, domains that are not deregistered, forsale, or currently in the droplist will be presented as closed by default.

Closed is the default status for all domains that are registered to entities that you don't control that are not forsale and not currently on the droplist.

Closed status is also used to indciate domain name licences that are in the direct .au space, or a .au 2LD where the direct .au has already been registered (see opportunity status) that are registered to entities .

Domains that you control should rarely be in closed status.

deregistered status

Deregistered status is for domain names that are not registered, that have been registered in the past. These licences are generally available to register now.

drop status

Drop status indicates that the licence has expired and is about to be purged from the registry. These licences are beyond redemption and will definitely become available to register again in the coming days.

The domains that are in drop status is collectively know as the 'droplist'. The current droplist can be seen here.

More information about the droplist and drop-catching will be added soon.

dropped status

The dropped status is a interim status used as we refresh the droplist, which we do hourly. These domains' status will transition to:

forsale status

Forsale status means the current licence holder has placed the domain name up for sale. These domains are available for purchase through the Dimpl site for the nominated price, and may be accepting offers. Dimpl charges a 10% commission on sale made through the site.

Domains may also be sold through the Sedo domain monetisation platform.

bulkimport status

Bulkimport status indicates that this domain was added to the site by a bulk import process and the domain has not yet been reclassified.

cdelete status

Cdelete status stands for "client delete". This is a droplist status, indicating that the licence will soon be purged from the registry and made available for purchase again. Cdelete status indicates that the current licence holder has initiated the deregistration of the licence. See pdelete.

check status

Check status is normally reserved for client domains managed by Dimpl that require some manual attention. This is an interim status that normally resolves itself. If any of your domains persistently show the check status, please get in touch ASAP.

contact status

Contact status indicates that the Dimpl domain management team is trying to contact you about something related to the domain name. This status doesn't resolve itself. If any of your domains show the contact status, please get in touch ASAP.

forwarding status

Forwarding status domains are domains that automatically forward all web and email traffic to another domain. This is most often used where multiple extensions of the same root name have been registered for brand protection purposes, and aren't reqired to be used individually. For example, dimpl.au and dimpl.com.au.

managed status

Managed status indicates that the domain is under Dimpl domain team management.

new status

New status is used to indicate a domain that has been recently added to the system and hasn't yet been processed.

Processing of new domains includes checking for related .au domain names (same root name, but different extension) and scanning the homepage.

opportunity status

Opportunity status indicates a 2LD .au domain (.com.au, .net.au, etc.) where the direct .au domain is available to register.

parked status

Parked status indicates that traffic to the domain is presented with a generic domain parking message, normally this page on the DOMAINSAFE website.

pdelete status

Pdelete status stands for "policy delete". This is a droplist status, indicating that the licence will soon be purged from the registry and made available for purchase again. Unlike cdelete, pdelete indicates that auDA has initiated this deregistration due to some policy violation, e.g. a registrant not meeting (or no longer meeting) licensing eligbility requirements. See cdelete.

pendingreg status

Pendingreg status means the domain licence is going through the registration process. This is a temporary status that automatically resolves to another status once the domain licence is granted.

Related status is a temporary status that indicates that the domain was found by checking the associated public extensions of another domain with the same root name.

setup status

Setup status indicates a new domain that is yet to complete initial setup. This may indicate, for example, that traffic to the domain should be forwarded to another domain, but this hasn't been established, yet.

subdomain status

Subdomain status is an erroneous status that indicates a domain has managed to get into the database that is a sub-domain. These are cleared from the database periodically.

transfer in progress status

The transfer in progress status indicates that the licence is in the process of being transfered to another domain registrar. The status will automatically be updated when the process has completed.
